Involving your family in a community service program

Getting disconnected is easier than getting connected. It takes time and effort to keep the morale and enthusiasm of a family up. But happiness is not got by doing great things. Rather simple things bring a lot of joy into the family. It could be painting the walls of the house with family members, or cleaning the lawns, or playing and picnicking together. The possibilities are endless. So what about being volunteers and going for a community service program with family?

It might sound weird in the beginning, but it is one of the greatest ways to bond with each other, and bond with others. Bonding creates love. Love creates happiness. It is always good to win the goodwill of others. More goodwill creates a lot of positive energy in the family. Goodwill and good energy are the fuel that supports a family’s existence and sustenance. And helping the community would be a great idea to weave the family together with a noble common interest.

When a family volunteers to do something good for the society it rubs on upon others in a positive way. It could be passed on from generation to generation. It could become a family’s legacy. It could become a family’s solace or silent hill for coming and seeking spiritual peace. That’s what volunteerism and community service does for the soul of the family.

Your family will feel more networked with other people. When outside contact is made new ideas emerge. New ideas create new opportunities. New opportunities create new happiness. As horizons expand the quest for life increases. The quest for living increases. And the quest for helping others to help themselves increases as well.

After all we are all part of a grand show called life. Other people should have the right to live with a certain degree of inhabitability as well. And we as human beings should consider that. So lets start together and with our families to create the change.

Volunteering: Help yourself as you help others

Volunteerism is a good sign of the times. People helping other people are good to see. All this without the need for materialistic and financial gain is even more heartening. There for becoming a volunteer is totally a noble act. Because like other noble acts even this is concerned with improving people’s lives.

In the west, volunteering is quite common. It is still a mystery as to why the east do not have much movement in the volunteering area. Volunteering is different from donating money. Donating money is charity. Volunteers are needed to physically help someone. They are more like physical manpower resources to help people.

Volunteers have a lot of benefits. While nobody actually concentrates on the benefits of community service or volunteering, it still remains a very enriching activity. Volunteering gives vital life skills. Volunteers know and understand life better because they would have had a firsthand view of it in their various activities.
Volunteers also learn the value of team work. This is particularly helpful when working in big corporations. The importance of talking to your colleagues cannot be denied. The more you communicate the more your lines are cleared. In volunteering a lot of communication happens all the time.

Volunteers may not be leaders, but they become one. Volunteerism teaches leadership skills and the ability to lead from the front. This includes taking decisions and sticking by them. It is also about using the powers of discretion and thinking on one’s feet. Volunteers also become good managers. Because volunteerism is all about time management, resource management, demand management, people management and so on.
Volunteers are confident people. When they help others, they inadvertently are well-equipped to help themselves as well. This is priceless gift that nobody can teach. Volunteering is also the perfect setting for professionals to work in particular capacities and hone their professional skills. No other engagement may give the same scope for applying innovation at work.

Community service will change your personality

Community service is also known as social service. It is called by different names in different parts of the world. Volunteering is a good way to keep oneself occupied with useful things. A idle mind is a devil’s workshop. The mind of a volunteer is seldom idle. Rather it is teeming with positive thoughts.

Volunteers come in different categories. They may be working for international agencies. They may be hired by the government, or might be doing it on their own. volunteers who work for international agencies are most often than not trained by the agencies. They will be expected to discharge the duties of a professional volunteer. Private volunteers who run their own volunteering initiatives are good for local welfare activities. While individual volunteers can be included anywhere, as they offer the most flexibility amongst all.

Community service or social service is preventive in nature. It is most effective when put in a situation that prevents something. It could be anything related to healthcare, war, or natural disasters. The very nature of the service entails a deep love towards helping human beings. It is not for people who are not genuinely empathetic in nature. But that does not mean that volunteers are born and not made. It could be the reverse as well. Volunteers should be ready to work in any kind of hostile conditions. It is more than a short-term engagement. It is a life-changing voyage into the inner self whilst helping people come out of trouble.

The value that community service adds to the society is immeasurable. It is truly a divine service, in that, it is akin to doing what God should have done. It could lead to changing outlooks and increased vitality to live life in its highest effectiveness. Once the fallibility of life is adjudicated, then the quest for giving more the years, rather than adding more years to life comes up.

Naomi Campbell’s Community Service

Naomi Campbell is quite a famous personality. She is quite infamous for her temper tantrums as well. In the fashion industry out of all the names that have come and gone, Naomi is still very much in vogue. The dusky beauty packs so much sex appeal, that the fashion world wants her to endorse every brand possible.

Naomi is a veteran in the fashion industry. With more than fifteen years of experience she is a name to reckon with. While she still remains the diva of the fashion world, one thing that is pulling her reputation down is her supposedly angry demeanor. But these claims are not proven. Yet you see Naomi packed off to serve community service for temper related disorders.

In the year 2007, and in January, Naomi’s maid complained to authorities about being abused by Naomi. The New York court found her guilty and asked her to serve community service for 5 days. The deputation was the sanitation department of the city of New York. Naomi was assigned the job of a cleaner. Makes one wonder whether the court actually wanted Naomi how it felt to be a maid. But this community service of Naomi did wonders for her. She learnt a lot of things that she would have never have.

Even at the deputation center as a cleaner, Naomi never lost her sense of fashion. She attracted attention for her poise and stylized way of carrying herself. Indeed, she is a real fashion model. Not only did the New York court ask her to do community service, they also directed her to pay a fine. She was even required to go for a course on controlling anger.

In a recent interview, Naomi told the presenter that community service gave her a lot of life lessons. Even though she was a little humbled by the experience, it paid her rich dividends in the form of empathy, sympathy, and compassion towards others.

Community Service Requirement

There is a trend that is slowly happening and is threatening to sweep the nation. For once, it’s nothing bad or deplorable, but rather its a wonderful thing that is making difference in the lives of others. Many schools have started to institute a community service requirement for graduation. There are some legalities that prevent it from being a part of each and every school but for those that are implementing it they are seeing some really great results.

Through this program people are typically allowed required to do between 40 and 80 hours of community service at places designated by the school. Students can petition to have other places, not on the list, count towards their hours. The time sheets must be stamped by the manager or the project leader of the community service they are doing.

The schools are doing this for a few reasons. The first of course being that they are seeing good things happen for the community. The other reason is that it helps up the public image of their school. Perspective students see that the school is a place that helps people and while it doesn’t always fuel there decision it can have a great impact on the parents.

They also do this in large part for the children. It’s important that students get out there and associate with those who are less fortunate. There are stories of students taking on volunteer work after their requirement has been met and there are students who form special bonds and friendships with the people they help. It’s a rewarding experience and one that students can really learn from as they move forward onto college and beyond.

Community service isn’t just something for church groups. It’s something that schools are using to teach students a valuable lesson outside the classroom.
