Plenty of people are looking to donate their time because it makes them feel great, and others are looking for volunteers. Sometimes, neither party knows where to start. If you don’t belong to a certain organization, you may not know they are looking for help and that they are willing to accept any help they can get. If you want to help someone, but you’re not quite sure where to start, try starting with these simple tips.

Check your local newspaper often, as you may find adds where people are looking for volunteers to help them. This is a good place to look because many organizations will want to advertise that they are looking for people to help them out.

Look into local organizations that host charitable events and are in need of volunteers such as churches, nursing homes, hospitals, and other organizations. You can research these local organizations online and probably find someone to contact. If you’re interested, simply ask them if they are looking for volunteers for any upcoming events. Ask people you know if they know of anyone that needs help. You may find people that are members of these organizations that know of events needing volunteers.

Any holiday is good to find a place to volunteer. At Easter, people will be looking for others to help with Easter egg hunts. At Christmas people are looking for any type of volunteer to help others in need. Search diligently at these periods throughout the year and you should find plenty of people looking for volunteers.

A nonprofit organization can only be as effective as it is efficiently run. If the nonprofit organization is not run efficiently it does not allow those that are working for the nonprofit organization to devote the proper amount of time to the actual cause of the nonprofit organization. The problem is that during a recession, nonprofit organizations feel the same effect as for-profit organizations do. In many ways, the nonprofit organizations take a greater hit during the recession due to many people unable to afford donations they usually are able to give. Luckily, there are many things that a nonprofit organization can do to increase its efficiency without having to spend too much money doing so.

Here’s a look at some of the ways a nonprofit organization can efficiently run its organization without having to spend too much money.

Use of Cost-Effective Software. Nonprofit organizations can use cost-effective software that will allow them to not spend as much money on computer software. Cost-effective software can include the use of Google documents instead of Word documents as well as utilizing open source software programs instead of having to pay for licensed software programs.

Use of Credit Card. Many nonprofit organizations rely upon credit cards to expand the amount of capital that the organization can use. Whether choosing a credit card or prepaid credit card, nonprofit organizations are able to utilize a large amount of funds that would otherwise not be available to them.

Social Media Outlets. Through the use of social media, nonprofit organizations can raise awareness for their cause and hopefully bring in donations from all over the world. Social media is generally free to use and can actually be a cost-effective way to raise awareness to their cause.

Merging with Other Nonprofit Organizations. Nonprofit organizations can merge with other nonprofit organizations that are fighting for similar causes. This will help cut back on expenses and increase the efficiency of both nonprofit organizations.

How Much To Give?

Everyone likes the idea of giving back but very few know exactly what to give back. No one wants to be stingy when it comes to the money they have to give to a good cause, but people often have to balance that want to be generous with the want to obtain the things that they really want in life. Many times trying to strike that perfect balance is much easier said than done. So how do you properly manage the giving spirit with the needs of others?

The easiest way to do this is to create a budget for your charitable contributions. Of course just setting an amount isn’t easy and does take some figuring out. Plenty of expenses come up in a month so you’ll want to set up the amount you pay on fixed expenses and the money you are spending on your secondary expenses. Once you have those two things set up you can then determine how much money you have left to spend on yourself. Then you have to make a donation that feels right to you. Many people would choose to give 10 percent of their monthly earnings to charity but those numbers can vary by the amount of money you make. As long as the effort is being made there is no need to worry about giving back in any sort of increment.

Of course once the right amount is determined then it’s just about trying to figure out what charity you can give it to. There are plenty of charities to choose from and many charities benefit from plans where they take a set amount every month. This way they continue to count on money and it takes the work out of donating. It’s a great solution for the person who isn’t sure how much to donate. Don’t make the mistake of getting hung up on how much you give. Just make sure that you give. That’s what is most important.

This is a charity who tackles the needy in a new and interesting way. These days the action aid attempts to get rid of the poverty around the world by starting at the top. They are looking at the injustices that occur in all walks of life. They feel by getting to the root of the problem it will trickle down to the people in a beneficial way.

Adopt America Network

This is one of the prouder charity in the United States. This is about adopting children in the area as opposed to going to other areas of the world. This is important as there are so many children who need help and so this organization makes sure they find a good home.
